Are you feeling scared for your child because you don't know how to help them with an eating disorder?
Or maybe your teen has been on a recovery path for a while, but you think they could benefit from more support?
Does your teen need peers to talk with who can understand what it's like to have an eating disorder?
If you answered "yes" to these questions, then this eating disorder recovery group is perfect for your teen!!!
Teens benefit from taking part in a community of their peers.
- They feel understood and not so alone in their eating disorder because they can relate to their peers.
- They are more open and honest, so that self-awareness is better and they are more mindful of the choices they have and the decisions they make.
- Hearing stories from peers often leads to personal “aha” moments.
- Because they both receive support and give support in community, their ability to accept support from anyone improves. Also, they feel more motivation for recovery because they want to be a good role model.
- They learn from each other and may get new ideas on how to resolve issues they experience.
Today's teens are already overwhelmed with many pressures foreign to all parents, just like you.
Issues like negative body image, low self-confidence, and high anxiety, which often accompany eating disorders, only increases the amount of stress and pressure a teen experiences.
Teen Talk group will help relieve the stress!!!
What will your teen gain from this group?
- A feeling of connection and community knowing there are other teens having similar experiences.
- More insight into their eating disorder through discussion around issues like negative body image, pressures of academics/sports/arts, relationships, anxiety about food, and more.
- Increased motivation and resiliency for recovery.
- Increased self-awareness because they are in an environment where they feel safe to really open up and explore relationships with food, exercise, body image, and health.

FAQ's
What if my teen cannot make every group?
Teens are so busy, it’s okay if they cannot make it to each group. You just need to make sure to give me 24-hour notice if they are unable to attend.
Groups started, can my teen still join?
Yes, this is an open group, and that means new group members are welcome to start group at any time.
Can I use my health insurance?
I am an in-network provider for Providence, Pacific Source, and MODA.
I also can bill other insurances as an out-of-network provider.
My child already has an individual therapist, do they really need groups too?
Groups are a great resource for teens who are motivated by a positive peer culture. Groups give teens a pathway to a recovery-focused identity through seeing peers do it, which makes the eating disorder less secretive.
Can you be my teen’s individual counselor too?
No, unfortunately I do not currently have any openings for individual therapy. I can communicate with your teen’s treatment team as needed.
Why can’t my teen participate if we are in another state?
I am only licensed in the state of Oregon so I am not allowed to do counseling across state borders, even if it’s teletherapy.
